Braunschweig Blaze: Smoke Cloud Warning Persists
Braunschweig/Magdeburg - Following a significant blaze in an industrial zone in Braunschweig, the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry of the Interior's situation center continues to caution about the spreading smoke cloud. The districts of Harz, Börde, and Mansfeld-Südharz are reportedly affected, with preliminary assessments suggesting the potential release of chemicals, as stated by the Interior Ministry. Thus far, acetone leakage has been identified.
As of Wednesday morning, Braunschweig police report that the fire has yet to be fully extinguished. Originating on Tuesday afternoon at a facility specializing in aerosol and spray product development and filling, the fire also threatened an underground tank containing 29,000 liters of flammable gas. Multiple explosions occurred, prompting the cordoning off of the surrounding area by the fire department due to extensive smoke. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries.
